It can seem like a tall order at first: freezing away the unwanted fat, just like that, in about an hour. No gimmicks or pseudoscience, just an effective treatment with a long history of proven results. But, it’s not a replacement for a weight loss programme rather, a contouring system for areas that are hard to get to with exercise and diet, like abdomen, love handles, upper arm and even knees and chin. So, here’s everything you need to know about freezing your fat away.
How does CoolSculpting® work?
CoolSculpting® is based on the science of cryolipolysis, which uses temperatures close to freezing to target and break down fat cells in specific areas. Using a suction-like action, the treatment area is pulled up and isolated so that the freezing of fat cells can proceed without spreading to other areas. It’s non-invasive, takes around an hour and has little to no downtime.
Can you DIY CoolSculpting®?
Sorry for the lovers of DIY, but CoolSculpting® is not something you should attempt to replicate at home. The CoolSculpting® machines have been specifically created to garner exactly the right temperature to target and kill fat cells without damaging the tissue around the area. It would be virtually impossible, and even dangerous, to try to strike this perfect balance at home without causing risk of serious tissue damage (including frostbite).
What can I expect in a treatment session?
Before your actual treatment you will have had a consultation to discuss where you would like to focus your treatment and if you are a suitable candidate. If you proceed with treatment, you may feel numbness in the area, and it may feel slightly uncomfortable. A session will take around 35 minutes to an hour (depending on the area you’re having treated) and the treated area will be massaged afterward by your appropriately trained CoolSculpting® medical professional. Some people may require medical clearance before a treatment.
When can I expect to see results?
You may start to see changes as quickly as 6-8 weeks after your treatment, and the full result should be seen after three months.
