It’s easy to get started on your CoolSculpting® journey. Use the clinic finder to find a CoolSculpting® clinic near you to make an appointment for a consultation with a CoolSculpting® technician. A registered and appropriately trained medical practitioner should also be involved in your initial assessment to determine if you are an appropriate candidate for CoolSculpting® treatment. You should feel comfortable with the consulting practitioner and other staff, the level of aftercare offered and any proposed treatment plan before committing.
At your first consultation, you will be able to talk to a trained CoolSculpting® technician and medical practitioner about your treatment goals and the specific areas where you want to eliminate visible bulges of fat to reshape the contours of your body. They may take the time to discuss a holistic approach to treatment options from different angles, then focus on specific areas.
Find a clinicYour CoolSculpting® technician and medical practitioner will work with you on a treatment plan that’s tailored to your needs. It may take as little as one clinic visit to achieve your goals. With different applicators to choose from, your technician can design a treatment plan to help achieve your desired results. Often, optimum results are achieved with two treatments in the same area.
For most people, a customised treatment plan may include more than one CoolSculpting® treatment. For example, you may want to freeze subcutaneous fat from your inner and/or outer thigh, and then get rid of those stubborn “love handles” or "saddle bags". If you have limited time but have several areas of unwanted fat, some clinics may even have multiple CoolSculpting® systems. Your technician will explain the process and establish if this is a suitable option for you.
Your technician will provide a recommendation on which areas could be treated and how many treatments you may need. The result? Treatment where you want it that can help you meet your body goals.
CoolSculpting® is a completely non-invasive procedure. During your treatment, a gel or gel pad and applicator will be applied to the specified area. This delivers controlled cooling to the targeted fat.
As the name suggests, the CoolSculpting procedure can be a little chilly. Controlled cooling is delivered via an applicator to freeze the targeted subcutaneous fat. Though you may feel intense cold initially, this feeling usually subsides as the area numbs. Because most applicators use a vacuum to draw fatty tissue into the applicator cup, you may also feel some pulling, tugging and/or mild pinching.
Once treatment area/s are selected, the device is positioned on your body and controlled cooling is applied. A gel or gel pad and applicator are applied to the targeted area. Vacuum applicators draw the tissue into the applicator cup. Applicators are secured to the treatment area. All applicators deliver controlled cooling to the targeted fat.
Once the applicators are positioned and the session begins, you are encouraged to do whatever feels most comfortable for you while you sit still, such as reading, catching up on emails or watching an episode of your favourite TV series.
The CoolSculpting® procedure is completely non-invasive, which can mean minimal expected downtime. Often, patients return to work directly after their CoolSculpting® treatment. This will vary between people and may be dependent on treatment area.
During the procedure you may experience sensations of pulling, tugging, mild pinching, intense cold, tingling, stinging, aching and cramping at the treatment site. These sensations may subside as the area becomes numb.
Following the procedure, side effects include redness, swelling, blanching, bruising, firmness, tingling, stinging, tenderness, cramping, aching, itching, skin sensitivity and numbness. Numbness can persist for up to several weeks. A sensation of fullness in the back of the throat may occur after submental/chin treatment. Though rare, other side effects such as paradoxical hyperplasia (gradual enlargement of treated area), late onset pain, severe pain, freeze burn, vasovagal symptoms (may include dizziness, sweating, fast or slow heart rate, nausea, paleness etc), subcutaneous induration/hardened tissue, hyperpigmentation and hernia may also occur.

As with any procedure, ask your technician and medical practitioner if the CoolSculpting® procedure is right for you.
Most patients can return to their normal activities immediately after the CoolSculpting® procedure. Initial results may be seen as early as 6 weeks with final results around 12 weeks after treatment.
