After your treatment

During the procedure you may experience sensations of pulling, tugging, mild pinching, intense cold, tingling, stinging, aching and cramping at the treatment site. These sensations may subside as the area becomes numb. Following the procedure, side effects include redness, swelling, blanching, bruising, firmness, tingling, stinging, tenderness, cramping, aching, itching, skin sensitivity and numbness. Numbness can persist for up to several weeks. A sensation of fullness in the back of the throat may occur after submental treatment. Rare side effects such as paradoxical hyperplasia, late-onset pain, severe pain, freeze burn, vasovagal symptoms, subcutaneous induration, hyperpigmentation and hernia may also occur. As with any medical procedure, ask your medical practitioner if the CoolSculpting® procedure is right for you.

The CoolSculpting® procedure is non-surgical, so typically you can return to normal activities almost immediately. Often, patients return to work directly after their CoolSculpting® treatment, this will vary between people and may be dependent on treatment area.

Always be sure to schedule a follow-up assessment with your CoolSculpting® medical practitioner to review your results.

Most patients may start to see results at 6 weeks with final results around 12 weeks following treatment. Patients should not have the CoolSculpting® procedure if they suffer from cryoglobulinaemia, cold agglutinin disease or paroxysmal cold haemoglobinuria. Be careful using CoolSculpting® in pregnant or breastfeeding women, in patients who are sensitive to cold or to fructose, glycerin, isopropyl alcohol or propylene glycol; in patients with poor circulation, recent surgery, scar tissue, skin conditions such as eczema, dermatitis, or rashes in the area to be treated, nerve pain following shingles, nerve damage due to diabetes, poor skin sensation, open or infected wounds, bleeding disorders or use of blood thinners, hernia in or near the area to be treated; and in patients with implanted pacemakers and defibrillators.

The following rare and very rare side effects have the following reported rates (approximate occurrences per number of treatments): paradoxical hyperplasia (1/3000 [0.033%]); late-onset pain (1/6000 [0.017%]); severe pain (1/6000 [0.017 %]); hyperpigmentation (1/11000 [0.009%]); freeze burn (1/15000 [0.007%]); treatment area demarcation (1/20000 [0.005%]); vasovagal symptoms (1/30000 [0.003%]); subcutaneous induration (1/30000 [0.003%]); cold panniculitis (1/60000 [0.002%]) and hernia (1/185000 [0.001%]).
